40 years of Camphill

ON A fresh February afternoon at Camphill Duffcarrig, lunch has finished, and the living room at Cloonagh Farmhouse is full of workers, ready for their afternoon tasks.

Sitting at the large dining table are Jimmy Breen, originally from The Rock, Gorey, and Peter Craddock, a Bray native. Also present is Madeline Thompson, originally from Dublin, and sitting across from her is co-worker Loretta Power, who has come all the way from Australia to make Duffcarrig her home. Her husband, Christian Biehl sits nearby, as do several other community members and coworkers.

As we get down to talking about the 40th birthday of Camphill, many of those present get back to work, eager to take advantage of the previous daylight hours, and we're left with Loretta, Jimmy, Peter and Madeline.

Camphill Duffcarrig, was the first Camphill community for people with special needs to be established in the Republic of Ireland, and from there, grew eighteen different enterprises and activities in Ireland.
